Playing Online Blackjack
Think of a casino, and what do you imagine? Rows of slot machines, a roulette table or two, and people playing blackjack. As one of the most popular casino games globally, online blackjack is Canada’s favourite card game.
When you consider the inherent sophistication of a blackjack table, both the anticipation of finding out what kind of hand you have and the thrill of matching your blackjack strategy against that of the dealer is undeniably exhilarating.
At Ruby Fortune Casino, you get to experience all of this, plus the convenience of playing it from the comfort of your couch.
A Treasure Trove for Twenty-One
Blackjack has a storied history – literally.
The game merits mention in a book by Miguel de Cervantes (of Don Quijote fame), where the protagonists play games of Veintiuna, another name for blackjack. In fact, blackjack is still known as twenty-one – unsurprising, given the key role the number plays in the game.
As you can probably tell, the game of blackjack originated in Spain. It has then travelled to France, from where it went to the UK, and finally made its way across the pond. En route, the game developed several variations, including a major change to the rules when it was introduced to the New World.
In the European version, the dealer gets one face-up card while the player gets two. After the player has made their move, they get a second card.
In the American version, the dealer gets two cards at the same time as the player, one of which faces up. Under certain circumstances, the dealer is allowed to check the face-down card before players get an opportunity to make their move, something you need to take into account in your strategy if you want to beat the house. You can see all the possible ways this works out when you play blackjack online at Ruby Fortune Casino.

How To Play Blackjack
Although there is strategy involved, the goal of blackjack is straightforward - build a hand that totals 21, or as close as possible while still beating the dealer’s total. Your total, however, should never exceed 21.
Once you’ve placed your bet, you’ll be dealt your first two cards. More than 21, you lose, but 21 exactly? Congratulations, you get half again of what you bet. If (and most likely), your total is less than 21, you can either Hit (be dealt another card) or Double Down (be dealt a card and double your bet) if the total is lower.
You can also Stand if you’re okay with the hand you have. If you happen to have two of the same cards (a Pair), you can Split your hand into two new hands, each of which will be dealt an additional card. Once everyone’s hands have been revealed, you’ll get a 1:1 return if your total is more than the dealer’s but less than 21, or less than 21 while the dealer’s total is in excess.
There you have it – the rules for online blackjack in Canada. Simple enough, but the thrill is in playing – so it’s time to get working on your blackjack strategy!
