October is upon us and that means we are all looking forward to Halloween! Witches, zombies, werewolves, mummies and things that go bump in the night – these are all traditionally associated with Halloween, which dates back to Samhain, the ancient Celtic festival. If you believe the legends, then that is when, for one terrifying night only, the worlds of the living and the dead come together and the souls of the departed walk the Earth. But for mobile casino gamers, there are things even more spine-chilling than the walking dead – like A Dark Matter, the brand-new Victorian mystery slot from Slingshot Studios.
Reeling with horror
Powered by Microgaming and playable on all desktop and mobile devices, A Dark Matter has a classic video slot set-up with five reels, three rows and five fixed pay lines. You can win both ways if you land three to five matching symbols on a line from left to right and from right to left. Bets range from a minium of 0.05 to a maximum of 50 credits a spin. Mobile casino fans who play a lot of 5-liners will not be surprised that volatility is high. The RTP is 96.18%, so checking in at Wraith Manor won’t cost you an arm or a leg – although it might cost you your sanity!
Eccentric investigators
Lord Wraith vanished from Wraith Manor a long time ago. Now the mysterious Dark Matter has spread throughout the house – and invaded the reels of the game window! It’s up to you to plumb the depths of the mystery – along with a motley crew of characters who also serve as the higher-scoring pay symbols. (The lower-scoring pay symbols, which are the 10, J, Q, K and A tricked out in Victorian style.)
Silas Brewer is a servant with deep-seated loyalty to the Wraiths and their estate. He will do whatever is necessary to protect their legacy! Silas pays out 120 credits for 5 hits on 5 lines.
Molly Perkins (160 for 5 hits) hasn’t been working at Wraith Manor for long, but she already feels that something is off. Will her curiosity be her undoing?
Bertram Lynch (240 for 5 hits) is a policeman with extensive military experience and highly developed instincts – his gut tells him that something sinister is afoot.
Eleanor Wraith (320 for 5 hits) is a powerful and imposing figure enshrouded in mystery and superstition – just like the Wraith estate itself.
Finally, intrepid investigator Nathan Highmore has been brought in to uncover what is becoming a rather Dark Matter. He pays out 1200 credits for 5 hits.

Experience the darkness
The wild symbol is the A Dark Matter logo. Appearing fully stacked on reels 2, 3 and 4, the wild for substitutes for all pay symbols. The scatter is an elaborate and somewhat sinister Victorian door-knocker – land three scatters on reels 2, 3 and 4 to open the manor door and collect 12 free spins! Throughout the free spins feature, wilds are super-stacked. Each scatter you land gets you an extra free spin for as long as the scatters keep landing.
If you’re wondering what Dark Matter looks like, you can see it for yourself when you trigger the Invading Wilds feature! Whenever you land a fully stacked wild on reels 2 or 4, the wild invades an adjacent reel and fills two whole reels with wilds. Better still, if you land a fully stacked wild on reels 2 and 4 in the same spin, the wilds turn into that eldritch Dark Matter and invade reel 3. This awards you with a x2 win multiplier.
A haunting tale for Halloween
Apart from the fast and furious features and the wonderfully spooky soundtrack, it’s the beautifully designed Victorian mystery setting that makes A Dark Matter such a joy to play this month of Halloween. To get you in the mood, here’s the whole back-story:
Lord Wraith preferred the solitude of his study, where he remained throughout the night documenting, researching and cataloguing this unique archive of oddities.
His shipments of the unusual had come in from parts unknown, containing specifically requested pieces for exclusive clients and a few additional items that were to be bargained off to the highest bidder.
One such unexpected arrival was a small, unassuming, but remarkably captivating statue of uncertain origin.
The sculpting and carving had elements Of African influence, but was quite unlike anything he had seen before.
The craftsmanship was at once delicate and precise, but also felt somehow ominous to the touch.
It seemed to be an objects at odds with its own duality, as though it were trying to tear itself apart and fold back into itself simultaneously.
Lord Wraith’s fascination with it was immediate; he felt drawn in and compelled to unlock its mysteries.
The statue seemed to vibrate under his touch as he rolled it around carefully in his hands. The material started to shift, as though it was not bound to be solid, liquid or vaporous, but rather all of these at once.
Even by firelight, the darkness was more than a shadow, gradually wrapping itself around his hands, growing and enveloping them.
He should have been terrified, but he felt somehow comforted and almost safe, like the familiarity of a childhood blanket.
Nothing else mattered as he slowly slipped into the darkness.
Lord Wraith was never seen or heard from again after that night, but Eleanor still feels his presence in the shadows of Wraith Manor.
